GIM 5 Attachment B
National Science Foundation Policy with Respect to Financial
Supplementation of Fellows
The institution may, if it deems such action desirable, augment NSF
Fellowship stipends from institutional funds in such amounts as are in
accordance with the supplementation policies of the affiliated institution.
In the context of these guidelines, funds that the institution has
obtained from external (including Federal) sources may be considered as
institutional funds. This includes funds received by institutions from
NSF cost-of-education allowances, or overhead costs allowed under
project grants. Funds from such grants may be used for supplementation
in an amount not to exceed $1,000 per year for any Federally-assisted
Fellow. For example, a Fellow employed as a research assistant may
receive such supplementation as compensation for this service.
