SUBJECT: Project Site Visits and Other Scientific Group Visits
SUPERSEDES: GIM 16 (March 1, 1973)
The primary responsibility for coordinating project site visits, and other similar visits to the campus by representatives from prospective funding agencies, rests with the Dean of The Graduate School; the function is carried out primarily through Office of Sponsored Programs. Site visits vary considerably in character from specialized review of specific problems to broad inquiries into the total University environment. Accordingly, the nature of assistance to be provided by Office of Sponsored Programs to Principal Investigators and site visitors must be determined through communication before and during the site visit. Generally speaking, Office of Sponsored Programs can be looked upon as an administrative resource through which other University offices and personnel can be involved as needed.
There may be some instances in connection with an expected visit where there is no apparent need for assistance from, or cooperation with, Office of Sponsored Programs. However, a timely notification is suggested even in those instances, since staff members of Office of Sponsored Programs may know of other faculty members who could benefit from a personal contact with the visitor.
Office of Sponsored Programs will welcome an opportunity to help with any necessary arrangements wand with the gathering of information that will be useful to planned visits.
