NSF FastLane
If you are familiar with FastLane
and already have a password,
go directly to the NSF
FastLane web site.
If this is your first time
to use FastLane and/or do not
yet have a password, read the
instructions below.
Introduction
Welcome to the University of Washington's
implementation of the National Science
Foundation's FastLane system. The FastLane
project utilizes advanced information
technology to explore methods to re-design
and streamline the way NSF does business
with the research and education communities.
The purpose of this web site
is to familiarize and assist
UW faculty and staff with the
resources available under NSF
FastLane. If you are familiar
with FastLane and already have
a password, please proceed
directly to NSF FastLane.
If not, you will need to obtain
a password.
How
to Obtain a Password
Most NSF FastLane functions require a password
to protect the privacy of each Investigator
and the confidentiality of a pending proposal.
To request a password, the Faculty Investigator
should contact OSP by telephone (206) 543-4043
or email osp@u.washington.edu. Contact
OSP if you forget or wish to change your
password.
NOTE: For security reasons,
the request must come directly
from the Faculty Investigator.
Once a password is assigned,
in most cases, it can be activated
immediately. The Investigator
may share it with departmental
staff or his/her designees
to access FastLane.

Management of FastLane
FastLane currently
provides two separate
servers:
- FastLane
Production Server:
This is the NSF official
FastLane system which provides
real data and transactions
with NSF FastLane.
- FastLane
Development Server:
This is a test system for
FastLane. Test transactions
have been added to most
functions to allow users
without a password to see
what type of information
they should expect to see
on the official (production)
system without using a
password. FastLane users
without a password are
encouraged to use this
system to get familiar
with FastLane. This server
is also used to test new
features of FastLane. For
that reason, the menu on
this server will contain
slightly different modules
than the production server.
Training
and Development
UW Faculty and Staff
are encouraged to participate
in this experimental
project. Early involvement
in FastLane will enable
Faculty and Staff to
gain the necessary experience
and knowledge in its
use when FastLane is
fully implemented as
a requirement for doing
business with NSF. For
further training and
a demonstration of FastLane
for your Departmental
faculty and staff, contact
Sinh Simmons at extension
3-4043 or send an email
to ssimmons@u.washington.edu
