GCI to ORIS Transition

The development period for the Grant and Contract Initiative (GCI) ended June 30, 2003 and the project transitioned to the Office of Research Information Services (ORIS).

From 1998 to 2003 Michael Vitiello, Professor & GCI Director, provided strong leadership to move us away from paper-based processes, and established a great number of connections that created a much more collaborative research administrative environment here at UW. In late 2003, GCI transitioned within ORIS allowing Michael to return to his professional research arena of sleep study and aging, and pass the major leadership role for ongoing operations over to Jim Kresl.

GCI Project Background

Enhancing the University's Grant and Contract process was originally submitted as one element of a larger proposal for funding under the University Initiatives Fund's first round of awards (UIF-1). The goal of that proposal was to develop a web-based technical infrastructure, which would be used to enable process improvements and program reengineering for most campus administrative systems. In June, 1999, based on a proposal submitted to the University Initiatives Fund, GCI received UIF-2 funding.
