Subject: [Mram] Possible Federal Government Shutdown – Impact on Sponsored Projects

Dear Colleagues,

As you are aware, our Federal government has yet to pass a budget or continuing resolution, and while we hope this will be accomplished by next Monday, we are making plans to respond to a federal shutdown on October 1, 2013.

During a lapse in federal appropriations:

·         Active grants and contract activity may continue work if the shutdown is a short one

·         Applications may not be able to be submitted (sponsor determined)

·         If you are anticipating a new federal award, be advised that it will most likely be delayed.

·         Agency personnel will most like not be available for approvals, supervisory support, and other administrative functions.

·         Although Federal agencies may temporarily cease making payments on active grants, the UW has funding plans in place to ensure research continues in the event of a shutdown.

If you receive communication from your federal sponsor, please forward them to osp@uw.edu to ensure our office is aware.

The OMB Memo and FAQ dated 9/17/13 addresses grants and contacts in Section II of the FAQs.

We will keep you apprised of this situation and our response using the MRAM mail list and will communicate directly to PIs and their campus administrators regarding specific projects as necessary.
