Organization & Structure
Research Units
The Office of Research is led by the Vice Provost for Research and oversees the following administrative units:
- Human Subjects Division (HSD) HSD partners with researchers to safeguard the rights and welfare of human subjects in UW research.
- Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) A service unit within the Office of Research that supports faculty members in obtaining external funds.
- Office of Research Information Services (ORIS) Coordinates, develops, and supports electronic research administration for faculty and staff at the University of Washington.
OR Leadership
The Office of Research uses a collaborative and inclusive decision making process, and is advised by the Research Advisory Board, the Faculty Council on Research, and research faculty and staff administrators.

The OR coordinates activities with UW colleges, schools, and other research officers. The OR works closely with the following offices:
