- $12.8 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV prevention. PI: Connie L. Celum.
- $10.1 million from the National Center for Research Resources to the University of Washington Institute of Translational Health Sciences whose goals are to transform the way clinical and translational research is conducted and to reduce the time a laboratory discovery can be made available to patients. PI: Mary L. Disis.
- $4.1 million from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to establish the International Program for Salmon Ecological Genetics for the study of Pacific salmon biodiversity. The program will gather genetic information on Pacific salmon populations and create databases of DNA sequences that will be available to interested researchers and laboratories from around the Pacific Rim. PIs: James and Lisa Seeb.
- $3.4 million from the National Science Foundation for bioenergy research. This Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training award funds six to ten interdisciplinary doctoral students annually, and brings together program partners from the College of Engineering, College of Forest Resources, American Indian Studies Program, and several Northwest Native American communities. PI: Dan Schwartz
- $2 million from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for the study of the basic biology of human embryonic stem cells, and the pathways human embryonic stem cells use to self-renew and become specific cell types. PI: Carl A. Blau.
