Winter 2014 Funding Cycle Applications Due

Applications for our Winter 2014 round of research funding, the first under our new calendar of four annual funding cycles, are due at 5 p.m. ET Tuesday, Jan. 21.  We’re seeking proposals submitted in response to funding announcements issued under all five of our national research priorities. Merit review for this funding cycle is scheduled for the spring. More information is in the Funding Center on our website.

Spring 2014 Funding Cycle Opens Feb. 5, New Targeted Announcements

The next call for applications under our five national research priorities will be released on Monday, Feb. 5. Plan to visit our Funding Center to view these PCORI Funding Announcements (PFAs) when they’re available. Mandatory Letters of Intent will be due by 5 p.m. ET Friday, March 7. In addition to our broad PFAs, we also plan to issue announcements seeking proposals to study two high-impact topics that were identified as high priority.  One prioritized by the Advisory Panel of Improving Healthcare Systems will focus on research to determine which transitional care service clusters best improve patient-centered outcomes among at-risk patients as they move from acute care settings to their homes. The other will focus on obesity treatment options in underserved populations. Details will be posted in the Funding Center.

First Call for Proposals for Pragmatic Clinical Trials/Large Simple Trials

We’re also preparing to issue our first announcement in a new funding initiative that focuses on support for bigger, longer studies known as pragmatic clinical trials or large simple studies. Such studies compare how well interventions work in “real-world” situations where all the factors that might influence their effectiveness are in play. We issued a pre-announcement about this initiative in December. Our first funding announcement, expected next month, will seek proposals for studies focused on priority topics identified by PCORI Advisory Panels and other multi-stakeholder efforts.
