PCORI-AHRQ Funding Announcement to Improve Treatment of Uterine Fibroids

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), our partner on a project to improve treatment for uterine fibroids, released a Request for Funding Applications (RFA) for this initiative on Sept. 30. PCORI will commit up to $20 million through this joint effort to develop a geographically diverse registry of women who have been treated for uterine fibroids and to fund studies of the comparative effectiveness of medical and surgical therapies using data from this registry. AHRQ will administer the application process; an awardee will receive up to $4 million per year for up to five years to build the registry and conduct the research. Letters of intent may be submitted to AHRQ by Friday, Nov. 15, with applications due Monday, Dec. 16. Learn More.

We realize that during the current federal government shutdown, AHRQ staff are not available to answer questions about this opportunity or to receive any submitted material. Because the announcement is being managed by AHRQ, PCORI staff are unable to do so either. However, we wanted to be sure interested researchers are aware of this announcement so that they can consider preparing applications and can seek additional information as soon as the government shutdown ends. Please refer to and follow the guidance to potential applicants on the federal Grants Guide website.
