Issues and Concerns with E-SNAP
Concern/Misconception/Question |
Correct Practice |
|---|---|
That it is not necessary to prepare a GC-1 for an e-SNAP submission. |
GC-1’s are necessary. The GC-1 is a form internal to the UW that, in addition to supplying general essential information about the application, also ensures that compliance issues have been checked and are in accordance to what is currently allowable. The appropriate signatures on the GC-1 (Chair, Dean, and IACUC, if applicable) are still required. |
| That you also need to supply the 2590 face page in order to obtain a signature page to send to NIH. |
You do NOT have to do this . Most of the administrators in OSP have been given signature authority, and designated as an “SO” within the (NIH) eRA Commons system. When one of them clicks the “Submit” button for an e-SNAP, it is an “electronic” signature, and is the equivalent of a hand-written signature. |
| That you need to do the rest of the 2590 and upload it. |
That is redundant. The e-SNAP format is designed to “prompt” you to answer what the NIH officials need to know (i.e. the face page information, the 3 SNAP questions, whether there have been changes in human subject/animal use). The “progress” made in the research can be uploaded from a word document. |
| What do you do if there is a subcontract involved? |
You will need to upload it in the “Other Document File” section.** |
| In responding “yes” to the first SNAP (regarding Other Support), the respondent provides only an explanation. |
The Other Support documentation needs to be uploaded, just as you would do if preparing the standard 2590 form. (The same holds true for providing a biosketch if someone new has been mentioned in the second SNAP question.)** |
| Who should you designate as the “Administrative Official” & “Signing Official”? |
This should be Lynne Chronister. |
| To validate or not to validate? |
Just because all of the categories listed in “Status of Completion” state “Completed” (on the e-SNAP Menu page) doesn’t mean that they actually are. This is particularly true if this is the first time the PI has submitted an e-SNAP, in which case it is very likely that the PI’s Personal Profile information was never completed. Please validate to discover whether there are any errors, before routing to our office. It will save time. |
| Who, in OSP, should you route the submission to? |
Please route it to your Grant & Contract Coordinator, not your administrator or Carol. |
**The section in which you upload documentation to be submitted is the “Other Document File.” If you have other information to be included (such as Other Support, Biosketches, subcontract paperwork, you will need to merge/scan all of it into one document in order to upload the file.
