Potential funding hiatus of the National Science Foundation

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 12:39pm

Dear Colleagues:

We still do not know if the government will shut down but will continue to monitor the news.

See below the note from NSF regarding the potential government shutdown. Basically the note says that for grants and cooperative agreements, we can continue with research as usual. No new announcements of funding activities will be made and no awards made.

Fastlane will not be available for proposal submission.  Grants.gov is open for proposal submission but since Fastlane will not be available, no proposals to NSF will be received.

If you have a contract with NSF, they will inform you whether or not you must stop work.

From looking at other sites and some general government shutdown sites, it appears that we may continue working on contracts unless we are issued a stop-work order. NSF and DoE have been clear on this but other sponsors have not provided specific notice.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at 685-7065 (lchronis@uw.edu), your OSP Administrator, or Tami Sadusky at 543-8952 (tamis@uw.edu).
