Applications for the Lung Cancer Research Program (LCRP) are being solicited by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Defense Health Program. The LCRP was established in fiscal year 2009 (FY09) to promote innovative and competitive research focused on the development of integrated components to identify, treat, and manage early curable lung cancer. Appropriations for the LCRP from FY09 through FY11 totaled $47.8 million (M). The FY12 appropriation is $10.2M.
The goal of the FY12 LCRP is to eradicate deaths from lung cancer to better the health and welfare of the military and the American public. As such, the LCRP will support and integrate research from multiple disciplines for risk assessment, early detection, diagnosis, prevention, cure, and control of lung cancer.

Concept Award – Pre-application due by August 9, 2012
Investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent)
Supports highly innovative, untested, potentially groundbreaking concepts in lung cancer
Emphasis in on innovation
Presentation of preliminary data is not consistent with the intent of the Concept Award mechanism and is discouraged
Human subject studies are permitted provided the studies are exempt or eligible for expedited review
Maximum funding of $100K for direct costs (plus indirect costs)
Maximum period of performance is 1 year
Reviewers will be blinded to the identity of the PI, collaborators, and their organizations
All applications must conform to the Program Announcement and application instructions that are available for electronic downloading from the Grants.gov website. The applications package containing the required forms for each award mechanism is also located on Grants.gov. A listing of all USAMRMC funding opportunities can be obtained on the Grants.gov website by performing a basic search using CFDA Number 12.420.
A pre-application (letter of intent) is required and must be submitted through the CDMRP eReceipt website (http://cdmrp.org) prior to the pre-application deadline of August 9, 2012. Applications must be submitted through the federal government’s single-entry portal, Grants.gov
