In his role as Associate Vice Provost for Research Administration, Jeff provides executive leadership and oversight for the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Human Subjects Division, the Facilities Security Officer and classified research, and other operational duties in the Office of Research. Along with the AVP for Research Information Services, Jeff co-chairs the Research Roadmap initiative, which aims to streamline business operations across all UW administrative offices in its research enterprise.

His duties also include providing institution-wide leadership on research-related issues, serving on executive advisory councils and committees, and fostering effective relationships with UW faculty, staff and administrative officers to continuously improve the level of service to researchers at the UW, as well as building relationships with peer institutions and major industry and federal sponsors on a national level.

Jeff received a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of California at Los Angeles. Prior to his appointment at the UW, he was the Assistant Vice President for Research and Learning Innovations for the University of Colorado System and Director of the Colorado Tobacco Research Program, and he held an attendant faculty appointment in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics at the University of Colorado Denver Health Sciences Center. With a research background in pulmonary toxicology, His current interests center on environmental health sciences and the translation of public health research into practice.
