Training and Education

Training in the conduct of human subjects research is encouraged for all researchers at the University of Washington and is required for “key personnel”* receiving funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The IRB may also require human subjects training of a researcher or research staff.

Education in the basics of human subjects research that meets the NIH requirement is available on a regular basis via In-Person Sessions or CITI Web-Based Training. The Human Subjects Division also provides and coordinates other training opportunities related to human subjects research.

*NIH specifies who needs to receive required human subjects education as: "Individuals who will be involved in the design and conduct of NIH-funded human subjects research must fulfill the education requirement."

For questions or additional information about human subjects training, please contact hsdtrain@u.washington.edu.
