Research that uses the internet as a locale or medium (as opposed to simply a tool) can pose unique issues regarding privacy and confidentiality. There are also methodological concerns that are specific to internet-based research, including but not limited to reliability and validity of data, challenges to appropriate consent processes, and assessment of risk vs. benefit of participating in the research.
