UW IRB Review of Clinical Trials
The UW IRB (at the Human Subjects Division) review clinical trials which are federally-funded and/or investigator-initiated. Federally funded means the trial is supported by a grant from the government (e.g., NIH, CDC, etc.) Investigator-initiated means that the investigator writes and owns the protocol for the study. Investigator-initiated trials can be partially funded by an industry-sponsor.
Of the seven UW IRBs, three are dedicated biomedical IRBs as well as one hybrid IRB. These four IRBs review clinical trials.
To apply to HSD for UW IRB review, complete the Human Subjects Review Application: UW 13-11. Send the completed form with original signatures and required number of copies to HSD at Box 359470.
