The UW IRB reviews the majority of human subjects research conducted by UW researchers. There are exceptions:

• Industry sponsored and initiated clinical trials are reviewed by Western IRB (WIRB)
• Research involving specific state agencies (DSHS or DOH, HCA, Labor and Industry) is reviewed by Washington State IRB (WSIRB)
• Cancer research conducted by a member of the Cancer Consortium is reviewed by the Cancer Consortium IRB (CC-IRB) at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
• Research at an institution with which the UW IRB has a cooperative agreement is reviewed by that institution and/or the UW according to the terms of the cooperative agreement:
  1. Seattle Children's
  2. Virginia Mason Medical Center/Benaroya Research Institute
  3. Group Health Cooperative
  4. Swedish Medical Center
