Purpose

This document describes HSD's determination about the circumstances under which the research use of publicly available data sets does not involve "human subjects", and therefore does not require review and approval by the UW IRB.

This document also covers the procedures for obtaining documentation from the UW IRB that proposed research activities using public data sets do not require IRB approval, and the procedure for requesting additional data sets be added to the pre-approved list of Public Data Sets.
