Accreditation Process: Application Preparation

Application Preparation

What is involved?
Applying for accreditation primarily involves the conduct of an in-depth self-assessment. During this process:

  • Policies and procedures will be reviewed, revised, and formally adopted.
  • A list and copies of all supporting documents will become Sections C and D of the application.
  • The application form and a comprehensive description of the UW Human Research Protection Program complete the application.

Who participates?

An Accreditation Team of Human Subjects Division (HSD) staff, lead by Karen Moe, Assistant Director, will have primary responsibility for developing the application and shepherding the process.

All HSD staff will participate at various stages of the process, as will IRB Committee members and a broad range of groups and individuals who are involved in the UW HRPP.

How will information be shared?

The ability for all accreditation stakeholders to obtain information and to provide input is of paramount importance. The flow of information will need to be timely, effective, and efficient.

To facilitate this process, multiple options will be available for the exchange of information. Use what works best for you. Let the Accreditation Team know if there is something that we can do better or differently.

  • Web-based information will provide access to announcements, documents, timelines, and online discussion 24/7.
  • Email and E-News will be used for targeted communication: to make announcements; provide instructions and updates; and selected exchange of documents for review.
  • Posted and Bindered Information will be available at HSD to provide hard-copy of documents, announcements, timelines, and other accreditation information.
  • Meetings will serve as a natural place to disseminate information; discuss activities, progress, and options; gather feedback; and make group-based decisions.
