The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 includes approximately $7.4 billion in Defense-related appropriations, which account for less than 1 percent of the total $787 billion stimulus package signed on February 17 by President Obama. DoD intends to spend this funding with full transparency and accountability and will pursue three broad goals:
- Preserve and create American jobs
- Care for U.S. Service members and their families
- Improve DoD energy efficiency
