Family and Community Roles in Supporting Student Success
Student success is a shared responsibility among families, communities, and schools. Family and community supports are a determining factor in student engagement and success in school. While research supports that effective teaching is the most critical student success factor within school settings, there is a growing body of emerging research and practice exploring the family and community roles that can have the biggest impact on student learning.
We support programs and research which:
- Target the elimination of educational disparities for low-income students and students of color
- Demonstrate a commitment to improving student engagement and achievement through the use of family or community supports and interventions
- Exhibit commitment and organizational capacity to facilitate meaningful collaboration and input from multiple community stakeholders or organizations
- Provide evidence of sufficient capacity and commitment to collect and share data to inform activities and measure the impact of these activities on student achievement
The Pacific Northwest Team serves residents of Washington State and select Oregon communities (Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties). We are not able to fund proposals from for-profit organizations or individuals. Public schools seeking grants should apply for a grant through their school district. For this grant opportunity, we are not able to accept applications for projects that require a fiscal sponsor or fiscal agent.
Please submit a two-page letter of intent with a list of all anticipated investigators, description of proposed aims and approach, Biosketch of the PI, and a letter of support from the Dean or Chair to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5:00 PM Thursday, August 8, 2013. This letter of support signifies that the Dean or Chair have ensured that the nominee and application are likely to be of sufficient quality to be competitive nationally. Full proposals are due to the sponsor on 10/18/13, so you will need to have your proposal to the Office of Sponsored Programs by 10/11/13 for processing, if given the go ahead by the Proposal Review Committee.

Investigators who identify a grant, award or fellowship program that restricts the number of applications that can be submitted from an Institution should immediately contact their Chairperson, Associate Dean for Research (or Dean, if no ADR) and the Office of Research (see below) if they intend to prepare a response. Failure to do so, or to meet the deadlines for submission of pre-proposal, will preclude submission of the application through the Office of Sponsored Programs.
