Thompson Research Site
- Description
- The site has provided the opportunity to investigate the
ecology, productivity, and nutrient dynamics of forest
ecosystems. The site is primarily dominated by relatively pure
stands of second-growth Douglas fir and Red Alder. It is closed
to the public. The site has been used by the UW since 1961. It
is currently being used for class field trips.

- 12' x 16' cabin (50 yrs. old), with equipment and
instruments, in good shape; 12' x 50' trailer (20 yrs. old) for
supply storage, in marginal condition; 8' x 8' pump house (40
yrs. old), with storage pump (vacuum), in good condition; 16' x
18' open shed (new), used as carport, in excellent
condition.

- Lysimetery equipment, a well, a compressor, and two
snowmobiles.

- Recent Usage
- Research: A wide variety of productivity, acid rain,
mineral cycling, tree physiology, meteorology, and
fertilization studies have been conducted, however, no research
is currently being done. Instruction: Class field trips.
