Assisting Mary Lidstrom in providing leadership in supporting UW's research community, is a strong team of Associate Vice Provosts that have past and ongoing experience in a broad range of scientific fields.
Jeff Cheek is the Associate Vice Provost for Research Compliance and Operations, whose responsibilities include providing leadership for the development and implementation of research compliance programs within the authority of the UW Office of Research (specifically those relating to human subjects protection and conflicts of interest).
Dave Eaton is currently the Associate Vice Provost for Research, External Relations. Eaton oversees many of the interactions of the Office of Research with Federal agencies, working closely with UW Office of Federal Relations in Washington, DC. He also assists the Vice Provost in areas related to the administration of Centers and Institutes and other interdisciplinary research efforts.
Mani Soma is currently the Associate Vice Provost for Research, Industry Relations and a professor of electrical engineering. At the Office of Research, Soma assists in building relationships with industry, management of major initiatives such as e-science, Neptune, etc., in cooperation with other AVPs (e.g. John Wilkerson), and with the development of online systems and tools for research administration (e.g. SAGE, Researchware).
John Wilkerson is an Associate Vice Provost for Research and a Professor in the Department of Physics. At the Office of Research he assists the Vice Provost in facilitating large scale research projects. He also is responsible for fostering interactions and connections with national laboratories, in particular overseeing joint programs with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
