IFC "Dry Rush" Policy

The Interfraternity Council Membership Recruitment and Enforcement policy is typically referred to as the Interfraternity Council "Dry Rush" Policy. Section VI of the Constitution and By-Laws of the Interfraternity Council is this policy.

 VI. Membership Recruitment Expectations and Enforcement Policy

    A.  Chapter Expectations:
      1. All recruitment-activities are alcohol free, regardless of location.

      2. Rushees never receive any alcohol from the chapter, its members, or other individuals at any time.

      3. Chapter members may not consume or possess alcohol at any recruitment activity.

      4. Any non-affiliated college-aged male is considered a rushee.
       

    B.  Enforcement Procedures
    1. The following enforcement procedures are designed to enforce the chapter expectations outlined above in Section VI, Sub-Section A.   2. Alleged violations of the "Dry Rush" policy will be handled in our regular judicial process, directed by the Vice President for Standards, outlined in Section II of the Constitution and By-Laws of the Interfraternity Council.
           C.  Sanctions
    1. Should a chapter be found guilty by the Judicial Board of violating the Interfraternity Council Membership Recruitment and Enforcement Policy expectations, outlined above in Section VI, Sub-Section A. the following sets of sanctions will apply.

    2. First Offense--The Judicial Board can impose whatever sanction(s) it deems necessary. The Judicial Board should not impose sanctions in excess of those outlined for the second offense, thus keeping the order of penalties increasing.

      3. Second Offense--The Judicial Board can imposed and are limited to imposing one or more of the following sanctions:   a. One quarter suspension from the Interfraternity Council.   b. Notification of Chapter Advisor and Corporation Board Officers.   c. $500 - $1,000 fine.   d. Completion of alcohol education program by the entire chapter during the following quarter.
     
    4.  Third Offense--The Judicial Board can impose and are limited to imposing one or more of the following sanctions:
    a. Two quarter suspension from the Interfraternity Council.
       
    b. Notification of National/International Headquarters.
       
    c. $500 - $2,000 fine.
     
    5.  Fourth Offense--The Judicial Board has no authority to alter the following mandatory sanctions:
a. One year suspension from the Interfraternity Council. After serving that one year, the chapter must petition for readmittance to the Interfraternity Council. The General Council must vote by a 2/3 majority to readmit the appellant fraternity.   b. Notification of National/International Headquarters.
