Data Management Committee

Overview

The University of Washington understands the strategic importance of Institutional Data. The Data Management Committee (DMC) provides guidance and support for numerous data management activities. The DMC:

  • Clearly defines who is responsible for managing the data and what roles they play
  • Helps meet the goal of providing institutional data in electronic format regardless of where that data resides
  • Maximizes the value of institutional data by increasing the understanding and use of that data
  • Supports the university's strategic goal to incorporate information management as a part of decision making and delivery of services
  • Helps define and educate users with regards to all university, state and federal laws and policies that mandate and regulate data assets

Guiding Principles

  • Collaboration and Transparency
    The DMC is committed to developing useful solutions to the university's information needs through collaboration with members of the central administration as well as schools, colleges, and campuses.
  • Iteration and Delivery
    The DMC supports an iterative process that delivers quality resources to the university on a regular basis, which facilitates improvements to the quality and delivery of information.
  • Pragmatism
    The DMC supports the needs of the majority of the university community by rapidly analyzing pressing needs and providing quality deliverables.
