We are delighted to inform you that Susan Neff has accepted the position of University Ombudsman, effective January 1, 2009. Her appointment was confirmed by the Faculty Senate Executive Committee on February 23, 2009. We would like to thank the advisory search committee, chaired by Judith Howard, Divisional Dean of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, for leading a very successful search.
The University Ombudsman is appointed to assist in the protection of the rights and interests of individual members of the student body, the faculty, and the staff against arbitrary or capricious action or lack of appropriate action by University agencies, the student body, the faculty, or the staff. The Office of the University Ombudsman embodies the University values of integrity, respect, collaboration, and diversity. A neutral third party, the University Ombudsman does not advocate for the University or for either party to a dispute. Working within existing policies and procedures, the Ombudsman seeks to achieve a fair and reasonable settlement of disagreements through informal and interpersonal interaction.
Ms. Neff received both her B.S. and Masters in Education from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. She has served as Interim University Ombudsman since January, 2008. Prior to that she served as Assistant Ombudsman from 1994 to 2008.
We are greatly indebted to Ms. Neff for her continuing contributions to the University. Please join us in welcoming Susan to this important role.
