A message to students from UW President Mark Emmert
Sept. 24, 2008
Welcome to a new academic year at the University of Washington! Whether you are a new student or a returning student, I hope that you had a great summer and that you are feeling refreshed and ready to take advantage of some of the amazing opportunities our UW community has to offer.
You can expect a great deal to happen in the coming year. There will be classes, lectures, athletic events, concerts, opportunities for study abroad and community service and lots and lots of learning. Some of you may find yourselves conducting research in a lab with a world-class scientist, while others find themselves performing on stage, and still others will revel in late-night study sessions at the Center for Learning and Undergraduate Enrichment in Mary Gates Hall.
No matter where you find your niche, we want you to know that you are an important part of our UW family, and we have people and resources here to support you. You can read about some of the services in place on the Seattle campus on the Web site for the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Life (http://www.washington.edu/provost/studentlife/). UW Bothell also has a Web site where you can read about available student services ( http://www.uwb.edu/students/), as does UW Tacoma (http://www.tacoma.washington.edu/studentaffairs/).We are already off to an exciting start this fall. This year’s Freshman Convocation was one of the most memorable in the University’s history, and the news that Professor David Montgomery from Earth and Space Sciences has been named a 2008 MacArthur Fellow has made us all proud. Now it’s your turn. Have a great year!
Sincerely,
Mark A. Emmert
President
