LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Expanding leadership Workshops for Faculty
Joyce Yen, Program/Research Manager for UW ADVANCE Center for Institutional Change, describes how ADVANCE expanded its' scope as a result of the Leadership Community and Values Initiative.
Faculty professional development is critical to the success of the faculty overall. The ADVANCE program is pleased to be able to expand our quarterly leadership workshops for academic faculty leaders. These workshops are a venue for continuing conversations about the challenges and issues facing departments and other academic units. Past participants have particularly appreciated the peer mentoring through faculty-led case studies and discussions. By bringing together faculty from multiple colleges, these workshops encourage the cross-pollination of ideas and perspectives.
I am inspired by what I hear during the workshop discussions and case study presentations. Our faculty leaders care deeply about their units and wrestle with difficult, complicated issues. They are eager to learn and are open to new ideas. I’m proud to be part of an effort that is connecting people from across campus, encouraging exploration of flexible, inclusive, and effective strategies to address departmental and faculty issues, and helping UW be the best environment for student, faculty, and staff success.
