Valuing Diversity @ UWMC
UWMC ranks in the top 10 percent of healthcare organizations for valuing diversity, according to Press Ganey’s Employee Perspective Survey. Teddy Villamarin, RN, BSN, offers his perspective on diversity at the medical center.
I work as a STAT nurse and within the Cardiothoracic ICU at UWMC. The people working here are very diverse, but they work together really well. From administrators to ancillary staff, there’s a camaraderie that’s fun and exciting.
The UW promotes and supports ongoing education, so there’s a variety of perspectives here, as well as ways that people are moving forward: many specializations and opportunities to move into management, plus the leadership is great about flexible hours for those who are continuing school. I’m amazed at how much I’ve learned in my six years here. I became a stat nurse, working throughout the hospital to prevent critical care situations. It’s an achievement for me, knowing I’m part of this hospital.
