Bringing "Being Public" to Life
Jeanne O'Connell, Administrator for the School of Public Health and Community Medicine describes what "being public" means to her.
"Being Public" means to me that we are absolutely accountable to our students, the state legislature, any person walking up the street, the furthermost little communities of our state, and those agencies which fund the myriad research programs available on our campuses. We owe these constituencies transparency in our processes, accessibility to our resources, and integrity in our responses to their requests. This is a wonderful place to work, and if I do not avail myself, as staff, of the opportunities for continued growth and learning, this too is somehow cheating our "public" because I'd be less able to communicate to them the impact we have on our state community.
