Valuing "Collaboration"
Eric Godfrey, Vice Provost for Student Life, talks about the important role collaboration plays in enriching the student experience.
When I started as the vice provost for student life, I was very pleased to be presented with opportunities for my office to collaborate with other offices across the University to enrich the student experience generally and the undergraduate experience in particular. The challenge before us would be to work with our colleagues to reposition student life at the core of the student experience and to build stronger collaborations with other units, such as the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity and the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs. The more integration and connections we have, the more responsive we can be to students’ needs and interests.
Nearly one year into my appointment, I am very appreciative of the opportunity to build collaborations between my office and those of colleagues Ed Taylor, Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, and Sheila Edwards Lange, Interim Vice President and Vice Provost for Minority Affairs and Diversity. We share the view that our work together and with students should be holistic, recognizing that powerful learning occurs in and outside of the classroom and we look forward to continuing to develop these collaborations in the coming years.
