Anyone currently affiliated with the University of Washington - faculty, staff, or student - may nominate a staff member for the Distinguished Staff Award.
General Hints for Nomination Packets
The committee seeks concrete examples of the candidate's exceptional performance. Please tell us why this particular employee shines.
You may not submit more than three support letters per nomination but you may:
- Submit letters composed by groups of supporters
- Solicit many letters and choose the best three to submit
- Quote examples of the nominee's outstanding qualities as stated by others
The most successful nomination packets provide support letters from more than one constituency. Support letters should come from at least two of these groups:
- coworkers
- supervisors
- faculty
- students
- peers
- other UW affiliated individuals
Only one nomination packet can be accepted per employee or team. If more than one nomination is received, the nominators will be asked to consolidate the material.
Please keep in mind that each nominee will receive a copy of his or her nomination packet.
Nomination Process Overview
There are two ways you can nominate a staff person for the Distinguished
Staff Award:
- The new and improved on-line nomination process
(this year, nominators will upload support letters)
- The traditional paper process.
PLEASE NOTE: You must choose between (1) the on-line nomination process or (2) the
paper process. These are two separate and distinct processes and cannot be
mingled.
For example, if
you believe the committee should have a signed copy of your nomination
letter, you should use the paper nomination process. If you submit your
nomination online, it is not necessary, and in fact causes confusion, if
you also submit a paper nomination.
Since nominations cannot be added to or altered once they have been submitted, please take care to review your nomination thoroughly and to choose the nomination process that best suits your needs.
The committee makes decisions based solely on the content of the nomination and support letters, and does not review additional materials or websites.
Improved On-Line Nomination Process
Nominating an outstanding employee has never been easier with the new and improved on-line nomination process. This year nominators have complete control of the nomination process, including online submission of support letters. Once you have submitted your nomination, your support letter writers will receive an email asking them to review the letter you've entered for them. In addition, you will receive an email with a link where you can review your nomination. As a nominator you may start, save and come back to your nomination.

Paper Nomination Process
Please use the following guidelines if you wish to submit a paper nomination
Nomination packets are composed of three parts:
- The individual nomination form [MS Word]. (Form must be included in the packet). - OR -
- The team nomination form [MS Word]. (Form must be included in the packet).
- One nomination letter. Two pages maximum in type no smaller than 12 points.
- Three support letters
1 page maximum per letter in type no smaller than 12 points. (Only three support letters will be forwarded to the committee for review.)
Letters longer than the length specified or in type smaller than 12 points will not be considered.
The nominator is responsible for compiling the nomination materials and submitting the completed packet (paper nominations must be scanned so please no staples).
