Who May Be Nominated
The Distinguished Staff Award is open to all classified, contact classified, and professional staff (including non-faculty librarians), at the University of Washington who hold a 50% or greater permanent appointment and have been employed at the University for a minimum of six months as of the nomination deadline.
Teams of up to ten (10) eligible staff members may also be nominated (see Team Nomination Guidelines below). The criteria and process are the same as for individual nominees except that the cash award is divided equally among the team members.
Distinguished Staff Award Nomination Criteria
Please note that the nomination criteria have been revised this year to encourage participation and align with the University's vision and values. Nominees need not meet all the criteria, but please identify at least three that apply to the candidate. Nominees should provide extraordinary service beyond the basic job description and demonstrate the University of Washington values of integrity, diversity, excellence, collaboration, innovation and respect:
- Provides superior sustained service or a special one-time contribution to the mission of the unit or university
- Continually contributes to a respectful, diverse and collaborative work environment
- Exhibits exceptional resourcefulness, innovation or creativity
- Exemplifies excellence and integrity in workplace relationships, interactions, and decision making
Team Nomination Guidelines
A team may be a formally appointed group or a group of up to ten (10) people who work together on a regular basis. Both project teams and permanent teams may be nominated.
Individual team members must be identified and each individual's contribution must be described. All members of a team must meet the nomination eligibility requirements. All members of the team should provide extraordinary service beyond the basic job description and their work as a team must demonstrate the University of Washington values of integrity, diversity, excellence, collaboration, innovation and respect:
A team may be nominated for:
- An extraordinary accomplishment, demonstrated by the completion of a special work project or activity during the last year, or
- A superior, sustained effort that contributed significantly to the mission of one or more units of the University as a whole.
