What is the area of focus for your work/research?
I have led the diversity and inclusion efforts at Seattle Children’s and in the Department of Pediatrics. We have formed a Center for Health Equity and begun recruiting national leaders in this area. We have a number of community focused efforts in obesity, nutrition, hypertension, asthma, social media research and also in health disparities as they relate to hospitalized children.

How do you see your own work/research contributing to better population health outcomes?
We have numerous connections to both community groups and pediatric health care providers and organizations that can leverage the Council’s work as it relates to pediatric health. I also am active nationally in this area and can bring additional pediatric leaders to the efforts if so desired.

What do you hope can be accomplished through this initiative?
I am particularly enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn more about potential collaborations between the Health Sciences and the broader University community.
