On Thursday and Friday, September 19 and 20, 5,600 eager students will arrive at the University of Washington to begin the annual residence hall move-in. Many of our first-year students and their families are returning to campus after already visiting for First Year Programs orientation this summer. Nearly 4,000 parents and families were here during June, July and August to learn more about the various resources available to UW students.
One of these resources, Parent and Family Programs, is a new campus-wide initiative housed in the Division of Student Life. In collaboration with departments across the university, Parent and Family Programs will work to enhance communication between the UW and families, providing opportunities for you to have a supportive role in your student’s education and experience at the University of Washington.
During orientation, parents and families had a chance to subscribe to this revitalized Parent and Family Programs e-newsletter, a quarterly publication that will provide important information about the student experience, updates on programming and events, and opportunities for parent and family involvement at the UW. We value your feedback and hope that you will share with us any suggestions you have on ways to make this newsletter a more useful resource.
As another academic year begins, Parent and Family Programs is involved in many of the major happenings at the UW, including Freshman Convocation, Husky football games and Dawg Daze. We are thrilled by the number of e-mails we’ve already received from enthusiastic parents ready to participate in fall campus events, and we’re beginning to think about parent and family engagement opportunities for the winter and spring 2014.
We look forward to seeing you at upcoming events and to staying in touch with you throughout the year. Please do not hesitate to contact us or visit our website to stay up-to-date on campus life and resources.
