3rd Year Graduate Student, Chemistry
Chem Scholars Director and Facilitator

The University of Washington Chem Scholars “pilot” program, which launched in July 2012, features three components: understanding the mathematics of chemistry rather than concept development; the creation of a Chem Scholars community which fosters long-term cooperation among its students; and time management.

The Chem Scholars Program is supported and funded by the IMSD Program in collaboration with the Department of Education (DOE), TRiO Student Support Services (SSS), the National Science Foundation (NSF), Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) and the Health Sciences Center Minority Students Program (HSCMSP).

The Chem Scholars Program incorporates the use of social medial technologies including: 1) after-hours online and website support; and 2) utilizing private Facebook groups as a discussion board for students to practice problems and interact with their peers on solving problems, answering lab report questions and keeping socially engaged.
