About UsThe GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness of and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) Educator Development Initiative (GEAR UP EDI) is a program of within the University of Washington’s Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity College Access programs.  In 2011 we were awarded a federal grant, our third consecutive GEAR UP grant since 1999, from the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC).  Our grant fosters college awareness and readiness for low-income middle and high school students by providing a variety of programs targeted to educators and students.

GEAR UP EDI program provides year-round professional development and training for school leaders, counselors, teachers, administrators and other GEAR UP professionals to enhance their efforts in preparing low-income students to enter and succeed in postsecondary education and to build program sustainability beyond the life of the grant.
