Fall quarter is an exciting time on campus as returning students reunite and new students get acclimated to college life. In addition to Homecoming being just around the corner, there are upcoming events which will offer opportunities for our alumni and friends to remain engaged. We hope to see many of you in the months ahead.
Homecoming Saturday takes place October 27 and includes the 18th annual Multicultural Alumni Partnership (MAP) Bridging the Gap Breakfast at the Husky Union Building (HUB) Ballroom. Later that day, OMA&D will host the Purple & Gold Tailgate before the UW football game versus Oregon State. Be sure to get your tickets early for this popular event.
For many of you, the MAP Breakfast will be your first opportunity to visit the newly remodeled HUB which opened in September after undergoing a 2.5-year renovation. The opening of the new HUB has many of us just as excited to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center in January. More information about that event will be available in the near future so please stay tuned.
This fall we will showcase the University to a nation-wide STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) audience when UW serves as a host for the 2012 Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Conference at the Washington State Convention Center, Oct. 11-14. Attracting minorities in STEM fields is a priority for UW, and this event allows us to recruit prospective underrepresented graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty members.
At the end of August, we were pleased to recognize our donors at the annual Vice President’s Club Barbecue, held at the home of OMA&D supporters Nelson, ’84, and Suzanne Del Rio. We continue to be grateful for the generosity of you, our alumni and friends, who make it possible for OMA&D to provide educational opportunity and access for students.
