Students, Faculty and Staff Honored at Spring Recognition Reception

OMA&D Academic Counseling Services (ACS) hosted its annual Spring Recognition Reception, April 26, in the Peterson Room at Allen Library. Undergraduate students affiliated with the Educational Opportunity Program, TRiO Student Support Services, College Assistance Migrant Program and the UW Champions Program were honored for their academic achievements.

OMA&D ACS also presented Staff and Faculty Awards to Alexes Harris, associate professor of sociology, and Robert Rhodes, assistant registrar.

Vice President for Minority Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity Sheila Edwards Lange offered welcome remarks, while members of the ACS staff presented several awards. High Scholar Award recipients included Yoandra Esther Cortez, Kenneth Dodd, Gary Greene and Cynthia Simekha.

eNews Fall 2012Merit Award recipients included Lauren Arriola, Amaris Chen, Carmin Chong, Karla Ciccia, Fredy Cortez, Kyle Curtis, Maxwell Depina, Trang Dinh, Erica Foss, Katherine Harrison, Anjelina Hill, Brandon Hu, Kristin Hunter, Lionel Hutchinson, Peter Iglesias, Mykhaylo Krushelnytskyy, Humberto Mejia, Nathanael Mengist, Dylan Morgan, Ronald Nguyen, Vi Nguyen, Lloyd Pasion, Jazmine Perez, Cory Rice, Christian Rodriguez, Jodi Tomooka, Earnest Ujaama, Holly Wescott and Alejandro Woods.

OMA&D associate vice president for assessment Emile Pitre introduced the Honors Award recipient, freshman Chad Ikeda. ACS advisors Elena Guevara and Andrea Griggs presented the George Newsome Scholarship Award to senior Mariah Eneliko and junior Alan Lopez, an honor established in memory of Newsome who was an academic advisor and student counselor in the Educational Opportunity Program for over nine years.
