Tony VoThe Student Advisory Board for the last two months has held two general meetings opened to the campus to voice concerns regarding issues of diversity. By opening up the door for students to voice any issues seen on campus, SAB helps resolve these concerns through university administrators on campus and represents the student involved.

Currently the board is officially fully seated representing various RSOs (registered student organizations), the seven legacy groups, five at-large members, the eight ASUW student commission directors,  the student regent, and the GPSS secretary.  In the past month, SAB has also hosted its annual retreat in order for members to get to know each other and openly discuss topics relating to diversity and the impact that SAB can help leave on our campus.  Such topics discussed so far has been locating disability resources that are more accessible for students with temporary disabilities, and how this is an issue because of the lack of visible resources on campus.  Another point of discussion has been the issue of budget cuts at the UW and how this will heavily impact underrepresented students on campus.  Leaders in SAB thus stresses the importance for minority students to be represented in lobby days and write to our legislatures expressing our concerns about these cuts.

Tune in to see what changes the Student Advisory Board has helped implement on campus this quarter.  We hope to continue to be the bridge between underrepresented students on campus and the University of Washington’s administrators to ensure your concerns are brought to attention. Feel free to drop by to any of our general meetings held three times a quarter with the last one this quarter on December 5th at 4:00 PM in the ECC, Condon Hall 711E.
