Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange Honored by Tabor 100

In honor of her commitment to educational excellence, Vice President for Minority Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity Sheila Edwards Lange received a Crystal Eagle Leadership Award at Tabor 100’s 12th annual Captains of Industry Gala at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in downtown Seattle, Sept. 17.

Tabor 100 is an all-volunteer organization of individuals from the Pacific Northwest that supports the interests of the African-American business community. The Captains of Industry Gala is a fundraiser that allows the organization to continue supporting economic power, educational excellence and social equity programs for African-Americans and the community at large.

The Crystal Eagle Award is presented to community leaders who create partnerships across cultural, economic, social, political, geographic, or educational boundaries to the betterment of the African-American community.

In addition to Dr. Edwards Lange (educational excellence), also honored with the Crystal Eagle Leadership Award at September’s event were David Gandara (community relations,) George Allen (government relations), Mayor Marilyn Strickland (social equity), Deputy Mayor Darryl Smith (economic development), Senator George Fleming (lifetime achievement), and Donald King (Tabor 100 Legacy Hall of Fame).

Seattle City Councilmember Bruce Harrell was the master of ceremonies, while Michael E. Millegan, president of Verizon Global Wholesale, presented the keynote address.

Dr. Edwards Lange is also one of 15 local leaders who will be honored by the Puget Sound Business Journal as one of its 2011 Women of Influence on Nov. 16.
