ECC Groundbreaking Slated For Wed., Oct. 12

Members of the campus community are invited to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity Ethnic Cultural Center (ECC) on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 5 p.m.

The ceremony will take place at the ECC construction site located at the corner of Brooklyn Ave NE and NE 40th Street. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony at the temporary ECC location in Condon Hall, on the seventh floor.

The ECC is currently undergoing an extensive renovation process that began with the demolition of the old building. Prior to the demolition, the walls containing the historic ECC murals were extracted from the building and transferred to a facility where they will be stored under archival conditions until they are reinstalled in the new building.

Once construction on the new building begins, it will expand the ECC from 10,000 square feet to over 25,000 square feet.
