ECC Hosts 7th Annual Women of Color Reception

The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity’s Ethnic Cultural Center (ECC), along with Housing and Food Services and the Women’s Center, hosted the seventh annual Women of Color Reception on Wednesday, March 3, in the Walker-Ames Room at Kane Hall. UW women’s basketball coach Tia Jackson served as the keynote speaker for the event entitled “Living Our Legacy: Learning and Leading.”

Coach Jackson’s address focused on the three women in her life who empowered her: her mother, her high school basketball coach and mentor, Barbara McCool, and her collegiate basketball coach, C. Vivian Stringer.

The reception also featured a student performance from the Polynesian Student Alliance, as well as an opportunity to help create a legacy quilt. Attendees decorated patches that will be incorporated into a quilt that will be unveiled at next year’s event.
