Neighbors/Visitors

The North of 45th neighborhood contains the largest single consolidated area of fraternity and sorority housing in the nation.  Fifty-one chapter houses and eight annex properties can house approximately 3,500 members.  All are located in a six block by 2 block area.  Approximately 1,000 additional members, primarily Seniors, also reside in the neighborhood in boarding houses commonly called “live-out” houses.

The North of 45th neighborhood falls under the jurisdiction of the Seattle Police Department for 911 calls, emergency response, noise complaints, reporting of crimes, etc.  Additionally, the University of Washington Police Department operates a nightly patrol of the neighborhood.

Representatives of the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association, and OFSL participate in the North of 45th Committee.  The committee also has representatives of the UW and Seattle police departments, the Husky Neighborhood Interns, the Associated Students, and full time residents of the neighborhood.  Areas of mutual concern such as safety, crime, and neighborhood improvements are discussed and addressed.
