Graduate Foreign Language Exams (GFLE)

French 2 hours multiple choice questions, no listening may only be taken twice ever, no waiting period between retests
German 1 hour 40 minutes multiple choice questions, no listening may be taken no more than three times, no waiting period
Italian 2 hours multiple choice questions, no listening may only be taken twice ever
Portuguese 2 hours written translation and short answer questions

test may be taken once per quarter, no more than 3 times
Spanish 2 hours read essay and respond to essay questions in English

test may be taken once per quarter, no more than 3 times

testing is available only during the following dates:
SPR 2013: April 8 - April 19
SUM 2013: July 1 - July 12
AUT 2013: October 2 - October 15
WIN 2014: January 13 - January 24
SPR 2014: April 7 - April 18

Scheduled individually in the OEA Testing Center during regular business hours; please call 206-543-1171 for an appointment.

  • $45 fee payable in cash or check to OEA at time of testing.
  • No aids permitted except when expressly noted on test version
  • Sample Portuguese GFLE is available
  • No samples available for other languages
  • Results provided to student and sponsoring department within approximately two weeks
  • Scoring for multiple choice tests performed by OEA Testing Center
  • Scoring for translation tests performed by appropriate language department
