CLEP (College Level Examination Program) information sheet

Please note: Although the UW Testing Center administers the CLEP test as a service to the community, the University of Washington does not award credit for this exam

OVERVIEW: The CLEP is a College Board testing program delivered by colleges and universities throughout the United States that offers exams in the areas of Social Science, Business, Mathematics, Technology, Humanities, and Physical Science.
FORMAT: Computer based.
LENGTH: Examinees have approximately 90 minutes to complete the exam.
FEE: There are two fees for the CLEP test, one is paid directly to the CLEP testing company and one is paid to the University of Washington. Both fees are paid on the day of the exam.

  1. CLEP test fee is $80, paid by credit card only at the time of testing
  2. University of Washington test administration fee is $35.00, payable by cash or check only.
REGISTRATION: PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED by calling (206) 543-1171 or in person in Schmitz Hall, Room 440. Test format will be computer-based. Space is limited.
SCORES: Your CLEP exam scores are available immediately, unless you are taking the English Composition Exam with essay. If you want your scores sent to your college, you must provide the correct CLEP code number of the school on your answer sheet at the time you take the exam.

Prior to taking your exam, go to http://apps.collegeboard.com/cbsearch_clep/searchCLEPColleges.jsp to find the CLEP code number for the school where you would like your score report sent.

If no code is entered at the time of testing, CLEP will charge a $20 transcript fee to send scores to your college.
