Practice Problems & Test Content
The following links to sample problems have been created to aid you in preparing for the Mathematics Placement Tests offered by the Academic Placement Testing Program (APTP). Please note that while these problems are similar to those found in the tests, they are intended only as a guide and do not predict how well you might do on the tests themselves.
The tests have been created to determine whether you are ready for college level math courses and to place you into the course(s) for which you are best prepared. The General and Intermediate Math Placement Tests are of the same level of difficulty and are intended for students who will be entering general math or precalculus classes. The Advanced Math Placement Test is designed for students who wish to enroll in calculus. You are not expected to learn new material before taking the tests but to review what you have previously studied in your high school math courses. The following descriptions can be used to guide your review.
The General Mathematics Placement Test (MPT-G) covers the College Readiness Mathematics Standards (CRMS) 4-8 as developed by the Transition Mathematics Project (TMP):
4. Number Sense
5. Geometry
6. Probability/Statistics
7. Algebra
8. Functions
The Intermediate Mathematics Placement Test (MPT-I) covers the following selected topics:
|
Absolute Value Basic Algebraic Operations Exponents and Roots Factoring Functional Notation Geometry Graph Interpretation |
