The University of Washington will hold a campus Diversity
Fair on April 10 to recruit minorities from local high
schools, community colleges, and nearby communities.
The fair, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in
Kane Hall, will begin with remarks from UW President Richard
McCormick and Vice President for Minority Affairs Myron
Apilado. Current UW minority students from different
disciplines will then speak about their educational and
vocational experiences and answer questions. Representatives
from many of the university's programs will provide
information on financial, social, and academic support for
multicultural students.
The Diversity Fair will showcase programs offered to underrepresented students. Booths will include offices at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels that offer programs, services or scholarships for the targeted audience. Financial aid representatives also will be available to discuss the various options for financing an education.
Limited free transportation will be provided from key pick-up areas in Seattle. This event is a product of student-driven campus and community effort. The passage of Initiative 200 prompted students to find ways to reassure the community and prospective students that the UW is still committed to providing an education to all members of society.
For more information about the event, contact Brandi Foster (206) 685-2489 or Rose James rdjames@u.washington.edu.
The
Diversity Fair is sponsored by the Office of the President,
the School of Medicine, UW Alumni Association, Office of
Multi-Cultural Affairs in the School of Medicine, the
Graduate and Professional Student Senate and the Associated
Students of the University of Washington.
