Should Do
Recommendations from UW Police Department
The following recommendations are appropriate for all types of emergencies:
Low
risk (green):
- Develop
written emergency plans for your unit
- Develop a personal
and family disaster plan
- Bring a personal
disaster supply kit for your workplace
- Identify hazards
in your workplace and develop strategies for reducing or mitigating
damage.
Guarded risk (blue):
- Complete
recommendations from green level
- Be alert to suspicious
activity and report it to proper law enforcement authorities
- Develop
an emergency communication plan for your workplace
- Review stored
disaster supplies and replace items that are outdated
Elevated risk
(yellow):
- Complete
recommendations from green and blue levels
- Check telephone
numbers and e-mail addresses in your emergency communication plan
and update
as necessary
- Develop alternate
routes to and from work
High (orange):
- Complete recommendations from green, blue and yellow levels
- Review personal and family disaster plans
- Exercise caution
when traveling
- Review emergency
procedures and prepare for all types of emergencies.
Severe (red):
- Complete recommendations from green, blue, yellow and orange levels
- Listen to radio

- Adhere to any
travel restrictions announced by local governmental authorities
- Be
prepared to remain indoors or evacuate if instructed to do so by
local authorities
In the event of a specific threat to the University of Washington, additional
security and safety precautions will be taken, depending on the nature
of the threat, such as restricting access to certain facilities, roads
or parking areas, possible cancellation of public events, and increasing
security patrols. Emergency information will be broadcast to University
facilities by broadcast phone and fax messages to departments, within
departments using emergency communication procedures, broadcast emails,
alerts on the UW home page, and through public address systems.
