UW Libraries to participate in statewide Snapshot Day April 12
The University of Washington Libraries will participate in Library Snapshot Day, April 12. Libraries staff and students will wield cameras, solicit comments, and gather statistics for a 24-hour period to illustrate the value of libraries through stories, photographs and statistics. The event covers UW Libraries from Friday Harbor on San Juan Island to UW Tacoma and Bothell, to the UW Health Sciences Library.
The initiative is part of a nationwide event during Library Week (April 10-16), as well as a Washington state-wide effort by libraries to gather photos and comments to illustrate the wide range of activities and resources, many of which are be behind-the-scenes. The first photo could be at 12:01 a.m. in the Odegaard Undergraduate Library, where UW students take advantage of 24-hour help and study space from Monday through Thursday.
UW students, faculty and staff will be invited to post photos and comments via FaceBook and Twitter <#UWLibSnap11> or share photos and videos on Flickr <http://www.flickr.com/groups/uwlibsnap11/> — and to complete the sentence, “The Libraries are important to me because _______ ."— in person at any library, or electronically.
Dean of Libraries, Lizabeth (Betsy) Wilson is excited about highlighting the wide array of services through photos and patron comments. “The academic community relies heavily on our resources and expertise, both online and in person," she said. "We're eager to share those moments with the broader community. Our role in the lives of undergraduates, researchers and faculty is usually without fanfare, as we are a part of the fabric of discovery and knowledge at the UW, fulfilling our mission of ‘Connecting people with knowledge'.”
